Nadan chena sambar / Yam sambar /Suran sambar

Chena sambar is a very easy to make curry as there is no fine cutting and chopping involved .The yam is cut into big pieces and so is the ginger and green chili.

This age old recipe comes to you from Ammumma (granny).Let me quote what she says"Nallavannam  vevunna chena ayirikanam." She has a unique recipe for making this sambar which I am sure you will find nowhere else.

Homemade red grape wine / Kerala sweet wine / Easy wine making

Be it Thanksgiving,Christmas or a fall party, homemade wine always gets all the attention it deserves. It is definitely a matter of pride for me to make a batch of  wine successfully without any ceramic jar, gadget or wine making kit  .Grapes ,sugar and yeast are the only ingredients that go into this wine.

This red wine has beautiful floral notes and I can say a sweet wine you are sure to fall in love.

Inji puli / Sweet and sour ginger pickle

Inji puli is ginger pickled in tamarind and jaggery .This is super sweet version of  inji puli Palakkad special, yet another ancestral home recipe.Dark, aged tamarind is only used to make it .A big difference here is ginger is not fried.

Inji puli balances the heat of all the fiery hot mango or lemon pickles that are served on the side of the banana leaf in a traditional feast(sadhya).

Chili garlic fish -the easy way / Fish glazed in chili garlic sauce

Tilapia or Swai fillets are excellent for making this easy version of chili garlic fish.If u want to whip up something fast some sauces really come in handy to make the twist like the chili garlic sauce.I skip coating fish in the batter and deep frying instead I shallow fry the fish with two or three teaspoons of oil, carefully in a non stick pan without crumbling it.
